Diary of a music flow:
So here we are, Thanksgiving Monday evening, chowing down on a fabulous turkey-leftover meal, and I thought, might as well listen to last night's Total Jam... just toward the end of the Jeff Wayne/Justin Hayward/Richard Burton thing there was some kind of chord progression that just made "#9 Dream" explode in my mind, so I hit pause on foobar, went to youtube, and played #9 Dream by John Lennon. Now I've done it, we're flying solo. What next? "Morning of My Life (In the Morning)" by Bee Gees.
I went to my collection of DVD images, fired up VLC, and started playing Bee Gees "One Night Only" DVD from that song on ... wow. This concert, recorded at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in 1997, was (I think) the last recorded Bee Gees concert with Maurice still alive, and covers over 3 decades of music...

Now don't get me wrong, back in the 70's I was a total prog-rock junkie-- Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Strawbs, Procol Harum, Jethro Tull, Triumvirat, ELP, et al... and the Bee Gees were part of the enemy, leading the great '70s Disco Scare...
Well, 40 years later, most of the Disco Scare either fell by the wayside or matured into worthy sub-genres, and the Bee Gees just matured like fine wine.
Looking through the track listing, I noticed an authorship credit to Blue Weaver, for the Andy Gibb song "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away". Now, Blue Weaver was the keyboard player and co-songwriter with the Strawbs for the Grave New World, and Bursting at The Seams albums, replacing Rick Wakeman in the band. I never realized til now that he had joined up with the Bee Gees for a lengthy tenure after that...

...and in fact helped create their signature 'Disco' sound texture...
So, much like Deep Purple, Yes, Fairport Convention, and many other British Rock/Folk/Prog bands, the Bee Gees are just Strawbs anyway. Dave Cousins should be proud.
